The Youth Inclusion Program (YIP) is a strength/evidenced-based program focused on conflict resolution, positive leadership, social-emotional learning, substance misuse and truancy prevention leading to increased high school graduation and youth success.
Developed in 2000 by the Youth Justice Board (UK) as part of a national strategy for proactively tackling youth crime in England and Wales and now offered in a variety of communities worldwide, theROC’s YIP program has taken the framework of the international model and adapted it to a local context.
The program is based on individualized action plans developed for each youth and targets specific risk factors.
Youth are matched 1:1 with a staff mentor and work to find the right incentive and/or motivator to engage the youth to meet their goals.
Youth receive a combination of one-on-one case management sessions, and group activities.
Youth ages 12 – 18 that may experience academic difficulty, mental health concerns and/or risk behaviours & criminal involvement.
All costs associated with the youth’s involvement in skill development workshops, sports, arts, transportation (as funding allows) and other activities are covered by theROC.
As a referral-based program, referrals come through local schools, police, social services, probation officers, parent/guardians, self and other service providers.
To date, youth have been referred to YIP by Prince Edward Collegiate Institute, Highland Shores Children’s Aid, Picton OPP, St. Leonard’s/Intersections, Children’s Mental Health Services, Caregivers, theROC staff and youth self-referrals.
YIP is proven to increase school attendance and school performance while decreasing the number of youth participating in risky behaviours.

Stop by the Centre at 299 Main or give us a call to arrange a tour. We require all youth to receive permission to participate in the Youth Inclusion Program.
YIP Case Workers begin with each participant through an intake process that evaluates where they’re at and where they need to be. From there, goals are set to achieve the intended outcomes. Staff work one-on-one in supporting the youth throughout their enrollment, providing individualized opportunities for growth and success.
theROC provides all programs and services barrier-free. There are no fees or expenses for youth or their families.
