AcademicSUPPORT

theROC offers varied academic services to support youth enrolled in traditional school with tutoring and exam preparation, as well as those working through the Supervised Alternative Learning platform and alternative educational programs.

We have a successful partnership with PECI and the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board to ensure that all youth, regardless of circumstances, are supported in achieving academic success leading to improved high school graduation rates.

theROC Youth Services offers a range of academic supports to ensure that all youth have the tools and skills they need to succeed and thrive. theROC provides tutoring, exam preparation, financial literacy workshops, skills-based training, as well as other opportunities and resources to assist in accelerating individual learning progress. Additionally, theROC partners with Prince Edward Collegiate Institute and the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board to provide educational services to youth enrolled in Supervised Alternative Learning, Safe Schools, and other educational strategies and programs. Through this partnership, youth are referred to theROC for academic and alternative learning support, thereby providing wraparound service and ongoing communication between the school and theROC Youth Services.

Academic assistance can take many forms:
  • Short-term, individual tutoring is available for youth struggling to achieve one or more credits. Youth begin by meeting with our Academic Support Coordinator to evaluate their status in each course and create a work-plan for achieving their success. A schedule is set to ensure consistency and accountability. Youth learning is tracked weekly and parents/guardians are in regular contact with theROC staff.
  • Exam preparation is accessible leading up to first and second semester exams for youth in grades 9-12. Youth can self-refer to receive support both academically as well as emotionally. theROC staff facilitate study groups, provide workshops on cultivating healthy habits related to education and provide a range of coping strategies for high stress situations.
  • All academic services are available throughout the year.
